First full update on the new website... Sunday 29th October 2023

Good morning all and welcome to our new home and to my first full update! First of all, my grateful thanks go out to James Butcher for setting this up for all of us and for giving me some tuition on how to make updates... I am still receiving his coaching bit by bit. Hopefully, we will be able to continue FREE here for the foreseeable future; and that everyone who has access to the internet can find where we are now... In fact I do know that Nigel Brayshaw, for example, isn't on Facebook or WhatsApp and so if one of his team mates could message him or show him what the new location is that would be helpful. If there's anyone else that would like to know where we are now, then your help in showing them how to find us would be appreciated.

Right... onto this week's action...

Despite what some might describe as a "shock defeat" by St Andrews B, Pudsey Congs still top the table, but now by just 2 points over their conquerors, who have a game in hand on them. The scoresheet can be viewed on the 'Scoresheets' page and indicates that we had the first "tie" with Dave Smith and Richard Bowes finishing on 156 at the bell. Richard clearly worked hard to make up the handicap deficit and to achieve the half point with breaks of 40,39 and 45. Steve Boocock had the biggest win of the evening with a 185-120 defeat of Congs Mick Hirst and St Andrews B's Norman Procter obviously did well to defeat last season's Players Table winner, John Hirst 197-175. Congs Phil Hirst did well for the visitors with a 200-147win over Steve Clark.

At Bradford Deaf Centre, there were 2 wins apiece with Graham Pearson beating Jeremy Dixon and Neil Lee beat Brian Robinson. However, Ian Ford beat Nigel Brayshaw 200-166 and, making his first appearance in the League this week, Peter Wood beat Gary Rogers 200-156. Those two convincing wins were enough to claim the aggregate point for the Bradford set up.

At Princeville, the home team had suffered 3 defeats after winning in week one. Their visitors, Littlemoor, had won their last two after 2 defeats in the opening weeks. A close match was therefore expected. First up, it was John Bedford against your truly and on the near table, Graham Bentley took on Graham Tudor. Graham B set off well and maintained a reasonable lead almost throughout , however, Graham T kept on battling and with two breaks in the teens close to the bell he actually got his nose in front just at the right time to win 184-180. On the other table, John Bedford made pretty short work of beating me with more consistent scoring... leaving me with a record so far this season of 'played 5 lost 5'! So, 1-1 at the break and with Littlemoor 21 pts behind for the aggregate point.

In the top table match it was Princeville's James Butcher who did well to beat John Allan on a table that both said didn't play particularly well. 153-129 to James in a low-scoring affair. Peter Allan, for Littlemoor, continued his good form this season defeating Keith Tomlinson 196-154 but this wasn't quite enough to achieve the aggregate point for this visitors... 667-664 to Princeville to get them back to winning ways.

From top to bottom, the League Table now shows just four and a half points separate Congs from St Andrews A and Littlemoor, so it's still looking pretty competitive. This coming week, all three matches are in Pudsey with Congs taking on the Deaf Centre, St Andrews B will be at Littlemoor and St Andrews A will welcome Princeville.

The Players Table is right up to date also and my thanks go to John Allan for his continued help with that. Please see the page for that.

Finally, please note that the next League Meeting will be at St Andrews on Friday the 24th November 2023, 7.30pm start. At that meeting we will be drawing the knockout competitions, so please make sure your entries are in for the Individual Merit and Pairs competitions.
